Dexter ’s Kansas family was on holiday in Las Vegas when he get away his pet hotel and walk 90 minute of arc back to his planetary house to ring the doorbell .
The Hensons , ideally enjoying their Las Vegas holiday , were not expecting to see anyone come along on the doorsill of their home in the Kansas City suburbs — let alone their dog , Dexter .
He was supposed to be at a doggy daycare Feb. 16 , but Jeremy and Sarah Henson soon incur a notification from their home - security app . The doorbell camera showed Dexter at their front room access , paw the door and wondering why he could n’t get inside his planetary house .

" It did n’t storm me that he was on our front steps . I was just concerned that they did n’t know , so I telephone them . I was like , ' My dog ’s on your front porch , but I think he ’s supposed to be there , ' " Jeremy Henson toldWDAF .
Apparently , 5 - year - old Dexter was able-bodied to jump a 6 - substructure fencing to fly the coop his pet hotel . From there , he set off on a 2 - mile , 90 - minute journey to get home through Lenexa , Kan. , harmonize toInside Edition . For the uninitiated : Traveling by machine through Johnson County is difficult enough , so I ca n’t suppose doing it as a lonesome dog .
But Dexter did it . He got home and rang the bell to allow his folks know he ’d very much like to go back inside and catch some Z’s in his own bed . Many dogshave first-class navigational skills , and they can commemorate locationsbased on olfactory perception and sounds . Plus , the Hensons ofttimes take Dexter on longsighted walks , they told WDAF , so he ’s plenty conversant with the domain .
Someone from the kennel service later get at the Hensons ' to call back Dexter , WDAF account .
So how do the Hensons foreclose this from find again ? They simply always have totake Dexter with them on vacation . Or never leave on vacation again . Those are the only two options !
