Jamie Patterson and her seven children felt like their home was complete the day they adopted Mack , a pugilist - mastiff mix . They adopted the pup fromRough Road Rescuein Perryville , Missouri in 2015 .
Everyone was happy , but Mack was overly odd about the extraneous world and repeatedly escaped , reportedKSDK .
When Mack was found by Steve Svehla , director of Rough Road Rescue , Svehla accuse Patterson of neglect , and refused to give the dog back to her .

The Battle Begins
Patterson was not apply her dog up without a fight – a self-aggrandising one . She never could have suspected what she would come up against during the battle which ensued .
For two years , Patterson and Svehla fight back for custody of the weenie . Svehla argued that Patterson had not met the requirements of the delivery ’s adoption contract , which included experience a fenced - in yard .
Svehla also made a case against Patterson , read brute rest where they are wanted and that Patterson ’s menage must have had “ a flock of pandemonium ” going on in their household .

In retort , Patterson said she ’d had a K when she had adopted Mack , but the kinsperson had moved to a smaller plate that did n’t have a yard after the borrowing took place .

The Sudden “Death” of Mack
But much to Patterson ’s shock and disbelief , Svehla never pitch Mack . Instead , he brought her a corner of ash tree , and said that Mack had died of an contagion .
According to Patterson , Svehla got out of his truck , handed her the corner , said merely , “ I ’m sorry for your passing , ” and then just left . She say her small fry were devastated and began crying over the tidings of their beloved firedog ’s dying .

At that point , Svehla caved and admitted to faking Mack ’s death . The jurist sent him to jail for one night for contempt of homage .
He has also been charged with felony larceny and for go to cede Mack back to his menage immediately when the case was over .

Svehla admitted that he simply gathered the ashes of another dog he ’d had to cremate and pretended it was Mack . He defended his actions , say that it was n’t a personal attack – he was just render to protect a dog who had been in his care .
He also stage document from Patterson ’s former landlord claiming Patterson had neglected her animals , but these were never demonstrate in tourist court . So , their validness is in question .
