The Waukee Fire Department just outside of Des Moines , Iowa , rescue seven duckling from a storm drain . In a touchingvideo posted to Facebook , a firefighter from the " vitamin B slip " wax into a storm drainpipe and rescued the little ducklings who are now reunited with their female parent .

Apparently it ’s quite common for ducklings to descend through the grates of a storm sewer . According toRutgers University , a female parent duck can " walk across the grating without a problem , " but she may not recognize the risk of leading her ducklings across it . This heartbreaking mental scene is enough to make us all do a double - take when crossing over storm grate .
Rutgers has some backsheesh if you make up one’s mind to impart a helping hand to a duckling who may be grab in the sewer . They suggest using a " farseeing steel rod or crowbar for leverage " to lift the sewer grate . A kitchen strainer or similar tool can then be used to scoop up the ducklings , returning them to their mother . If you are not able to raise the grating on your own , then do as the sort multitude of Waukee and contact your local flaming section .
