The ‘Surreal’ Crash
Tony Wasielewski , deputy chief at Lake County Fire & Rescue , describes what savior saw : The plane — on its way to Waukesha from New Orleans — had fall back a backstage , smashed some trees , and rested on its belly , decimated .
" It was surreal , " fire fighter and EMT Elle Steitzer tells Daily Paws . " We can train for twenty-four hours on plane crashes , but until you in reality see a plane on the land … that reality while does n’t really kick in . "
fortuitously , that reality and breeding did kick in : 53 dog-iron and three people in the clang needed help . The Lake County Fire & Rescue squad quickly pulled the dogs away from the wreckage and out of mangled crates , tucking them into their jackets to keep them warm . The team did everything it could to keep the dog safe and well-heeled until they could be transported to local shelters .

Lucky and Marley Find New Homes
Linus — now favourable — was one of the dogs Steitzer helped rescue on the scene .
" I would have taken them all home , " Steitzer say , " but [ this one ] was just following me around , trying to get into the cockpit of the plane . He was the first one I was able to chase after down after calling different shelters in the county . "
favorable , ably namedfor an fifty - shaped pattern in his pelt and for come out of the trial by ordeal unhurt , has settled in quickly with his newfangled family , including two pelt siblings constitute Zara and Peach .
" We ’re felicitous to have him here , " Steitzer sound out . " He ’s been middling good . He ’s very seraphic and obedient — not too gamey ! "
Unlike Steitzer , Wasielewski was n’t so sure about adopt another frank — he already had two at family — but little Marley had other plan . She first encountered the deputy chief at the crash when he was sieve through the wreckage .
" She add up out , ran to me , hopped into my arms , and started give mekisses , " Wasielewski says . He hold onto her for a bit before passing her along and get back to body of work . But when he saw her again subsequently , she was so happy her butt started wiggling as she tried to get over to him .
Wasielewski still was n’t all sold , but when his wife recognise Marley on the news the next daylight and tracked her down , they figured it was worth going to see her .
" They opened up the room access , she turn tail past my married woman , jumped into my circle , and started kissing me — I tear up a little routine , " he enjoin . " I said , ' Well , I guess we got [ another ] blackguard ! ' "
Like Lucky , Marley has adjust to her new home just o.k. . " It ’s like she ’s been there her whole one twelvemonth of her lifetime , " Wasielewski says . " She ’s truly at nursing home . "
We could n’t have betoken a happier ending for this scary accident — for everyone . Marley and Luckyweren’t the only pups adopt by their rescuers , and we can only imagine everyone need is felicitous for it .
