It was six years ago when King theChihuahuadisappeared from his family ’s backyard in San Antonio , Texas . Against all odds , he turned up last calendar month when he was surrendered to an animal protection in Fort Lauderdale , Fla.—some 1,300 miles away .
Thanks to hismicrochip , the tax shelter was able to contact Debi Vazquez and her daughter , Danae , who instantly made the 22 - hour drive to reunify with their misplace pup .

On a showery 24-hour interval in June 2014 , Danae let their three dogs , including 8 - year - old King , out into the backyard . When she called the dog-iron back into the house , the two big dog came in but there was no King . Because their logic gate did n’t have a whorl , they believe King was steal .
They forthwith go driving around the neighborhood reckon for King but had no success . The next day they print out flyers to put in neighborhood mailboxes and on veterinarian position boards . “ We try out everything , ” Debi tell .
week became month , and calendar month became twelvemonth . Debi and Danae slow began to give up hope and call back they would never be reunited with King . Despite this , they never got free of all of his collars , outfits , and toys . “ Maybe in our heart we knew we would get him back , ” Danae says .

On Oct. 25 , a Chihuahua was surrendered to theBroward County Humane Societyin Fort Lauderdale . harmonize to the shelter , the woman who surrendered King had go to a cat ’s sign to buy a lounge . When she got there , he mention he was sick and could n’t wish for his wienerwurst . She took the dog for 6 months , but then could n’t take care of him either so surrender him to the shelter .
The faculty scan for amicrochipand found one . It was King ! Debi ’s endeavour to microchip her dogs and always keep their information updated had give off .
On her natal day , Debi received maybe the best present she could ’ve hope for — not that she believed it at first . “ It sound like a golem message and I was like , ‘ Who is play a prank on me ? ’ ” Debi says . “ I end up calling back , and it was actual . ”
The humane society let Debi and Danae to FaceTime with King , now 15 year onetime , which was a very emotional experience . “ He would n’t look at us , but just run into him and how former he has gotten was ace sorry , ” Danae says .
The Vasquezes ab initio tried to cypher out if King could beflown to them , but they did n’t want him to have to journey in the cargo arena after all he had fit through . “ We ended up leaving perhaps 45 minutes after that call , ” Danae sound out .
Debi and Danae ’s drive to Florida take 22 minute . The protection was gracious enough to buy them a hotel room so they could rest and reload once they were reunited with King .
When they arrived at the protection , the Vasquezes were surprise by all of the news crews . Their first interactions with King were not what they expected because of the camera andmasks . “ He was overwhelmed with everybody … just as me and my mom were , ” Danae says . However , once they left the protection and get their other heel out of the machine , King have a go at it he was back with his crime syndicate .
Their drive back to Texas took 29.5 hour because Hurricane Zeta reach sooner than they think it would . When they finally made it home safely , “ you could tell he get it on where he was , ” Danae says .
King is back live with Debi , whose backyard gate is now always lock in . “ I ’m trying to spoil him again , ” she says . She is entertain him back to health and planning to give him a life-time worthy of a top executive !
