Military dogs bring home the bacon such a vital persona to our scout group . They save life , bring society and teach obedience and dedication . Meet Lucca , a weenie that rises to the top grade of that already mellow bar set , and is personally responsible for salve hundreds of spirit – at the risk of her own .

Just last calendar week , she was awarded the highest level of honor of any U.S. Marine Corps dog ever , The People ’s Dispensary for Sick Animals(PDSA ) Dickin Medal , for her courageousness and conviction .

Lucca is a gorgeous German Shepherd , who during her embellish calling , was on over 400 armed combat term of enlistment with the allied troops , in both Iraq and Afghanistan . She served six years of service for the U.S. Marine Corps . During those tours , she preserve 1000 while going about her day and do her workplace .

No one ever doubt her skills and all were good when Lucca was on patrol with them . Lucca was part of a team that detected IEDs . The tier of preciseness demand for this invaluable skill is well understood .

Lucca ’s vocation came to an abrupt stop when she lose her leg on her final combat spell in March of 2012 , in Helmand Province , Afghanistan .

Lucca was on patrol , on duty , and had signaled on an IED on the way to their compound . As she started traverse for lowly improvised explosive equipment , a devise detonated under her and blew off her lower front branch .

“ The explosion was huge and I like a shot fear the worst for Lucca , ” Lucca’shandler during that mission , Cpl . Juan Rodriguez said according to the PDSA pressure vent .

“ I ran to her and saw her struggle to get up . I picked her up and ran to the shelter of a nearby tree line of business ; applied a tourniquet to her injured leg and forebode the medic to collect us . ”

Another Lucca rooter , Gunnery Sgt . Chris Willingham states proudly that Lucca hassaved his lifeon many occasion . Dogs are sensitive and Willingham say he has personally seen domestic dog go through a passel less than Lucca ’s combat injury and suffer so much more . Not his Lucca .

The goofy wiener has the same zest for life , as she did prior to the injury . Lucca has the same personality after the tragical injury that she had before losing a leg to that withering last duty tour .   A calibre that is what Willingham loves best about his good friend .

Her life is what Willingham admires most and now , as a 12 - yr - old retired old-timer , Lucca sharesher golden yearswith Willingham and his kinfolk . But , according to Willingham , she is just as active as ever , which is unmistakable by the video , show this well-chosen alive - life - to - the - fullest missy enjoy retirement . Life is great , says Lucca . Life is swell indeed .
