Beauty has always looked after her feathered friend , gator or not .

It was a terrifying encounter , one that left the 8 - year - sometime click with a unkept femur and gashes on her back , her proprietor Misti Roberts allege . But the dog who ’s long looked after her fledge Quaker saved two of the three ducks and is now recovering at a vet ’s office .

" It ’s just a miracle , " Roberts tell Daily Paws . " It ’s awe-inspiring . "
The Roberts family lives on the shore of Lake Powell in Panama City Beach , Fla. That ’s where Beauty produce up alongside the family’spet ducks . As of Sept. 13 , the day the alligator assail , the family tended to three of them : Cress , Downey , and Dot , the young .
Beauty likes spending prison term with the ducks , but it ’s a pretty one - sided kinship , Roberts enjoin . The research laboratory will want to play with them , but they ’ll run off from her outside . Even Dot , the sister of the bunch , will avoid Beauty even though she spend so much time with the bounder during her other days as an indoor duckling .
That ’s no matter , though , because Beauty still follows them down to the lake when they go for a swimming to supervise them . The protective instinct is so warm that she once kept watch over the loose - roaming ducks after they got stuck in a bush . Roberts said they had no musical theme where Beauty had gone and were getting worried , only to come up her next to the duck’s egg - satisfy bush .
" She just loves those duck and want to be their friend , " Roberts says .
Then came the case of last week . Beauty had keep an eye on the ducks down to the lake for bathing tub clock time when Roberts find out a " ugly commotion . " The ducks were squawking , and she could hear barks that did n’t go like Beauty ’s common woofs . The first thing Roberts saw was the alligator .
She call for Beauty , and she come back toward the house , two duck in tow . ( Roberts has n’t catch Downey since , so she take the gator feed the short duck . ) But Roberts could narrate Beauty could n’t get up the stairs to the house .
" There was just blood everywhere , " she says .
Roberts and her three teenage daughters quickly got Beauty into the new wave and on her way to the veterinarian . Gerrie Barr , DVM , toldWJHGthat Beauty was in serious condition .
" She was precarious and in electrical shock , she had multiple soft tissue injury and an obvious leg issue , " Barr told the boob tube place .
According to Roberts , Barr was surprised Beauty survived the attack . But now the hero sandwich dog is well on the route to recovery . After surgeons last weekend place a pin in her broken branch , Beauty is up and walking on her three operational branch . Barr is still keeping her under close observation , making sure the reptilian bite heal correctly . Otherwise , she ’s doing really well , Roberts says .
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking for the gator , only the second Roberts has ever seen in the lake , which sit down right beside the Gulf of Mexico . Meanwhile , Beauty will soon return home to reunite with her duck friend — who will hopefully be a slight friendly to their canine friend after she saved their lives .
