This week I wanted to talk with you guys about a piece of technology in the favorite industriousness that is really kind of piquing my interest , and it ’s photographic camera for pets . I work from home thankfully , I do n’t have to leave my dogs for long periods of clock time , but when I am die I wonder what they ’re up to , and I discover myself wondering this more , we have a Boxer who is seven years quondam , she has somedog separation anxiousness , it ’s moderately mild but I always wonder about what she does when we will .
Recently I ’ve detect that she ’s sitting … and we have a big picture windowpane in the front of our house , and whenever I pull in the private road she is there sit around in the window , and I always wonder does she sit there all day and wait for me while I ’m gone or does she just recognize the sound of my car bike , we survive in a very rural area on a back road , so does she just accredit the sound of my gondola and when she hears it kind of starting to call on down our road , we ’re the first mansion on the route , so does she realize that and jump into the windowpane ? I do n’t know .
So I ’ve been thinking about pet camera and I want to take a little bit today and talk you to guys about pet cameras and applied science in the pet industriousness . And to aid me kind of learn a small routine more about pet tv camera and what to look for when you ’re shit for one and kind of the course in the positron emission tomography industry and where this might be going , I spoke today with the Senior Marketing Manager at Petcube . Petcube has released a pet camera , and Rachel and I discussed latest engineering in the preferred industriousness very in brief , but certainly pet television camera . And if you ’re imagine about buying one or you do n’t really know much about them , she throw a lot of really great information and some steer and tricks for pet owners like myself that are n’t exactly technologically savvy .
I do n’t really give in to a lot of engineering , I render , certainly my children are better at engineering than I am , which is kind of silly because I work in a business enterprise where I ’m always prove products and testing applied science but it ’s just not easy for me to pick it up and learn it the way that it is for some people . So if you ’re like me , you ’re not specifically technologically savvy and you ’re kind of … you want to know what ’s going on with your animate being , your hot dog or your cat throughout the day but you ’re not certain that apet camerais correct for you , hear to Rachel , she ’s got some not bad pointers , and certainly I learn a mess by talking to her . So I ’m excited to deal her entropy with you guy wire as well .
Interview with Rachel Youens
Rachel : There ’s Internet of everything , there ’s for your rest home , for your pace , for your automobile , and I imagine the Internet of things is just really in the end hitting pet . And there ’s a wad of people that I think laugh at that a little number , like“Internet of pets ! How silly ! ” But when you really give it down and you look at it our pet ca n’t utter for themselves , they do n’t have a voice , and many times because they do n’t have a vocalisation wellness problems will take a slew farseeing to break , behavior problems take a circumstances longer to work out , suddenly we realise , “ Wow my pet just gained three pound , Oh no ! ” Or “ My pet has n’t been going to the lavatory properly for several days , I did n’t know until now , ” and it ’s too late .
So I definitely think we get like snickers at times of like , “ Oh ! ” you sleep together a pet cam , but I can not narrate you how many hoi polloi have come to us telling that it help them resolve problems , it helped them with doings . So trends that I see you know connecting pet happening in a couple different surface area , likely the one that most people acknowledge about is tracker , GPS caller trackers … those are just draw even smarter and cooler . I consider part … I call back it was Whistle just free part of theirs that integrate with Google Maps so you could almost see like a map view of where your pet … it ’s really really coolheaded . They ’re getting to do a lot of different stuff and nonsense , they ’re set off to incorporate things like … almost like Fitbit and things like that where you measure your pet ’s step .
So yeah , I think withpet technologythe next area that it ’s really getting is being a little less like “ Here are the step , ” or “ Here ’s where your dog is , ” or “ Here ’s the amount of natural action there was , ” and starting to aid you synthesize that into a little scrap more of what I do about it . I know that ’s what Petcube , we ’re actively work on is how can we make the amount that your preferred move , the amount that your favorite barks , how can we turn that into something that you could do something about ? So yeah , that ’s where I would really say you know the Internet things is just really finally reaching pets , and it ’s maturate , it ’s getting to where it ’s not just bluetooth your dog … something actionable and really useful for multitude out of this .
Samantha : Yeah … no , I absolutely agree . I think we ’re date more of that style kind of head towards the wellness side of it , and I imply you said it perfectly , your dogs ca n’t tell you , or your cats ca n’t recount you when they ’re not feeling well or when something ’s not so super significant for preferred parents . And I think now too we ’re seeing a mass more folk forge outside the home so it ’s kind of going hand in hand that we ’re not around as often and our PET we need to know what ’s going on with them .
Rachel : Well and again with masses I think kind of snicker at hidden stuff sometimes . You make love I show a great article the other day from a fellow company of ours in the preferent - tech blank phone “ Clever Pet , ” it ’s a plaything for dogs to play with that ’s electronic , and they were talk about how in the evolution of domestic pets it ’s really only a very minor amount of sentence that these fauna have been primarily exist in houses with masses working all day and how what we interpret as you know , “ Oh he ’s so lazy , he sleep all twenty-four hour period , ” and stuff , is often your hotdog being very bored , depressed not acting out on their rude doings .
Samantha : Sure .
Rachel : So when you see those thing it ’s really not to be laughed at , it ’s kind of your pet silently crying out . So yeah , people can express joy but I think pet owners really very seriously understand the trouble that we ’re addressing .
Samantha : decidedly . And I think of that ’s a perfect segue to kind talk about Petcube and what it extend , and there ’s other cameras on the grocery store too . And possibly if you could tell us a little bit about what would localise Petcube apart from some of those other things that we ’re seeing .
Rachel : Totally . So Petcube is an interactive favored River Cam , permit you watch , talk to and play with your pet from your smartphone . So …
Samantha : I knew they ’d make an show eventually .
Rachel : Kind of translate what that means is when I allege , “ Walk your pet … ” Hello puppy ! It ’s catch an 1080P camera , it has night vision so that you could actually see your ducky at dark , in dark also . When I suppose , “ Talk to your darling , ” it ’s get two - means audios so you could talk to your favourite and they can bark or purr back to you . And then I said “ run with your ducky , ” which how do you play with your pet through a camera ? They have a laser cursor , you move your fingerbreadth around the app sieve and it moves the laser pointer around the room . And just to bust a myth that dogs do n’t play with laser arrow , it ’s not true , scads of dogs … it ’s really breed dependent , a pug or a terrier might really fuck it , there are some Huskies that love it , pit bulls that love it , a lot of herding dogs do n’t even note the laser pointer , they just do n’t like at all …
Samantha : Oh that ’s interesting .
Rachel : But yeah , so it lets you watch , blab out to and toy with your favourite . Some of the full-strength stuff we have are fundamentally bark alert that rent you know when your blackguard is bark ; motion alert so you know when your pet ’s moving around . Yeah , but really I mean the interesting part is the optical maser arrow that we have , and we have a unexampled product come out in the spring called “ Petcube Bites ” that swaps out the optical maser arrow for the power to flip treats to your pet and go with it with a special command and things like that . So that ’s sort of the basis of what Petcube does , there are other … first of all I say security cameras on the market , course when we endorse into the business that we do is we found out that the room a deal of people are using their family security department cameras it ’s two way , it ’s to check babies and it ’s about their deary .
So when the majority use case was pets , why not make a tv camera that ’s specially made for pets rather than made for burglar , which is hopefully actually you ’re educating … hopefully you ’re not getting burglarize all the time . Anyway yes , so there are a few other pet cams that are out there on the market , just a handful really it ’s like I said , it ’s an come forth outer space . Where I reckon we tell apart from a mickle of those , and this is a really fun part about Petcube , anyone can play with pets , you could download the app right now , anybody , and start play with pets . So what you’re able to do with Petcube is in reality make your pet hold out and let other people act with your ducky …
Samantha : Oh nerveless !
Rachel : Sounds like a crazy thing , and by all substance not all of our drug user do it , but like I mentioned recently I was in a consumer electronics show , it was awful for me to let other people play with my pets . I was meddlesome all day long , I did n’t have time to even dally with them . And with our recording service of process actually at the destruction of the day we get a picayune highlighting Scottish reel of my pets and see who they act with . Like I said , not all our user open their camera populace , but what ’s really cool is you may partake just easily with your friends and family and you’re able to schedule time with them . So if I need to lease you toy with my cat from nine to five Monday through Friday I can do that . It ’s really fun .
Samantha : Oh that ’s coolheaded .
Rachel : Yeah . So I consider this … the community , the meshing of pet owners , and we ’ve been investing a heap of prison term in pay off Petcubes out in shelters , it helps ducky get adopted , helps shelter pets get play . So I ’d really say the kind of community that we ’re fostering is one of our big competitive advantages , the other thing is the cloud recording service that let you save those clips in the cloud . I have in mind , let ’s be honest , like most of our pets are pretty bored … they do slumber a set of times , and so with our cloud transcription services , based on sound and movement , it lets you … you cognize for my cats it lets me get this five times a day that they do move or the five times a mean solar day they oppose with each other or … yeah so I would say the cloud transcription service is a really big boom that we have to really capture those multiplication that you pet is at their best .
Samantha : Yeah , I mean certainly I suppose that allow other people to play with your pet too … and I can see how some masses may be would n’t want to do that , but not everybody is fortunate enough to be able to habituate cell earphone or a pad or something during piece of work , so if you ’re gone from nine to five or nine to six and you still require your pet to have some interaction you know that ’s great , class or friends or somebody could help you out kind of and exercise your pets , so that ’s really neat . I actually have … Yeah I have a Petcube approaching , they institutionalize it last calendar week when I define up the interview with you so I ’ll be reviewing it for our land site and to show our readers too . So yeah , I ’m activated to check it out . Well like I just told you , we have three dogs and four cats so somebody will always be around to expend it .
Rachel : Have you ever try optical maser with them ?
Samantha : Our cats love the optical maser , all four of them are … we have a petty beagle mix who does n’t really seem to care about a laser pointer , and our Boxer , she ’s honest-to-god and does n’t really care about anything , but our Lab does like a optical maser . The cats , all of our qat , older and young go crazy for a laser Spanish pointer .
Rachel : Good . It ’s really fun in the dark , it looks like a secret plan of lights …
Samantha : Oh yeah , nerveless .
Rachel: … it ’s really fun .
Samantha : Yeah and just … I mean you know being able-bodied to keep lozenge on them . I work from home so I ’m used to project them all the time and lie with what they ’re doing so when we exit the star sign , one of our dogs has detachment anxiety and I think I ’m too a piddling snatch too you make out when we leave the house , I ’m so used to being with them , so it ’s squeamish to be capable to check in and see what ’s die on throughout the day and just say hi to them or …
Rachel : Well we ’ve had type of people where a really corking one we had the other day was somebody who they put the cat ’s bowl up above the bounder ’s sports stadium on the floor , the cat ’s bowlful up on the shelf and the dog knock over the cat ’s arena and was starting to deplete the solid food with the glass in it and the owner listen it from the sound alarm and actually was able to unhinge the pet with her voice and the optical maser pointer while she drove home to go clean house up the good deal . So actually we had another case with a rugged mirror . Yeah , we ’ve hadseveral typeface studiesof really people being able-bodied to help their pets with that , so .
Samantha : Yeah , and actually that was my next dubiousness and form of the matter I want to chat with you about was the benefit of these types of technical devices for animals . And that ’s one thing I never even suppose of , but sure enough pets with separation anxiety if it ’s not super severe you could touch bases and they can get wind your interpreter throughout the day is a help , and just keeping them active I consider . Like you said , mass are working outside the habitation , dogs run to be lazy , not necessarily because they ’re a faineant dog but because they ’re bored , they ’re depressed so keeping them active and having them move around a little bit throughout the twenty-four hour period is a huge welfare .
Rachel : Well and we ’ve seen a lot of people … you jazz again when people recall this is a slaphappy thing , the use case for all aged pets who have offspring that they use case for , we have oodles of fosters who practice it for their baby kitten , you know you do n’t want to be there with a mom when she ’s just impart parentage and you want to give her her place to nurse and everything . So it ’s really easy for them to just place the Petcube in there , keep an oculus on them . Keep an eye on them , the stock breeder and stuff use it while animals are giving nascence .
So especially for sick animal , elderly brute , it just makes a lot of sense , and we ’ve had people who their pet were at the end of their life and to be able to just check on your pet and have that little bit of excess fourth dimension with your creature even if it ’s digital . I mean our product is as much for animals as it is for people , the peace of mind you get to have as a person that you ’re lay down that connection is Brobdingnagian . You know we have tons of typesetter’s case study but I think what we almost get the least amount of is how great it is for people and how happy it prepare them just to be able-bodied to have that connection the other solar day . There ’s that hugely popular biz , have you ever heard of Meeka … ? [ 00:14:13.10 ]
Samantha : Yeah .
Rachel : It ’s like , so it ’s just … I signify understandably people love that engage with animals , cultivating ; and for people who are allergic , ca n’t have pets , it ’s like a fiddling CT coffee shop that you could sway in your pocket all the fourth dimension . It ’s as alterative for the great unwashed as it is for beast , it really is .
Samantha : dead , I agree with it , and so I stand for I think sometimes leaving the house , particularly not just run to the grocery store , but when we ’re gone for a long day our detent are so used to having somebody home all the time so I do worry about them when we ’re run for foresightful years and they ’re all by themselves , are they just sitting there sad and depressed , are they playing with each other , are they moving around ? So it ’s coolheaded to be able to check in and give yourself that peace of mind of mind too that your dogs find when you ’re gone .
Rachel : You see funny little behavior , like I ca n’t tell you just all the comical dog hiding stuff or … getting in little competitiveness , or like people have learned that okay if me and my husband leave at the same metre then the dog goes crazy with separation anxiety , but if my husband go away and then I leave 15 min later on the dog ’s a lot calm . Like uncanny fiddling things people have learn , it ’s almost like we ’ve had the concept of a secret plan camera for a long time where citizenry see wild animals … and they watch deer . These are really just minuscule animals that live in our house so you have a go at it the game cam like it ’s fun to take in their little hidden …
Samantha : Yeah erudition … I mean you could have dog for age and not know all their them all quirks .
Rachel : Yeah . They ’re becoming cognisant of it .
Samantha : Yeah . So when people are shopping for technology , because like myself , not everyone is technologically innovative , what would you advice people I guess , what should they be seem for ? Because like you said , there ’s not a lot of products yet on the market as far as television camera , but there are options out there .
Rachel : Yeah I would say first dark vision is huge . We actually did n’t include dark interpretation in the first version of our ware , it ’s in our new Petcube shimmer . The fact of the matter is a draw of pets are nocturnal , my cats are hugely nocturnal , it ’s not even deserving it most of the time for me to go in and look at my cat during the sidereal day , night clock time is the sentence they ’re active . So I would really say night version vision first of all .
2nd of all , and this is one that I do n’t roll in the hay a wad about but I had to learn while I was here , 720P tv camera versus 1080P camera . It does n’t sound like that many conflict in Book of Numbers but a eminent solving camera actually does assist a whole fate . And then I ’d say looking for something … you know I think if you ’re looking out on the market and you ’re comparing a normal security measure Cam River with one of these specialty positron emission tomography cam , with a normal security measures cam pretty much what you ’re go to do is be capable to check on your deary and see them there being sorry , there ’s no two - way interlocking to it .
So really I would look for a pet River Cam that allows that two - manner engagement . Whether it ’s goody , whether it ’s laser pointer , find something that let you not just sit there and watch your pet and feel like deplorable about it but lets you actually do something about that battle . And I ’m evidence you it ’s just a magical here and now when the first time you move your finger across that screen you see the laser Spanish pointer and you see your cat move their little …
Rachel: … it ’s like that touch - out - and - touch - someone bit and it make you really feel salutary like you ’re doing something for your favorite . So those are the three things I ’d say , count for night visual sensation , look and for a little bit of a higher resolve camera , it ’s deserving it ; and then look for that ability to interact and not just watch .
Samantha : And one of the things I note too about Petcube , and I guess I do have one come but I checked out the website and I checked out the app , it seems like it ’s been design to be very soft to use , very drug user - friendly , which is something like I said , I ’m not a Brobdingnagian technical school person so some of the things that I ’ve tried for Top Dog Tips have been … you do it I ’ve had to do some research and kind of interpret the manual and play with it a little bit before I could visualise it out . So I was really impressed with the app and how round-eyed it is to use even for somebody that ’s not as technologically aware peradventure .
Rachel : Well we definitely … I mean you could tell just by reckon at the product like it ’s got that Apple aesthetical to it , like we ’ve backed into thing much more , and this is one of our reward , we back into it like a start up . We back into it , we move tight with engineering , we ’re very tech savvy , we put technical school first . It ’s not a bum take care product , it ’s not a traditionally pet looking production , it ’s moderately sleek looking . It ’s much more Amazon Alexa , we ’re much more like Sonos or something like that looking than it is like favorite looking .
Yeah , we ’re a technology native troupe , so I think we back into it with a really tech savvy point of view that arrange us onwards of a lot of competitors that are coming from a pet infinite and peradventure do n’t have tech first experience . So yeah , that ’s just a native … of who we are , who our squad is . They ’ve gone through a programme called White Combinator which is really noted out here in Silicon Valley . So yeah , we ’re a technical school - first company , we ’re almost not a preferent - first troupe which translates into a really fantastical user experience for our customers .
Samantha : Yeah and I imply just tattle of the gadget itself you know one of the other things I notice is it ’s small-scale , there are other television camera for … even specifically for ducky or security cameras that are turgid and you could set it anywhere , some of them have to be mounted to the wall , which is a little bit annoying if you ’re a favourite possessor and you do n’t need to put holes in your bulwark or you do n’t have a right place to put it on your wall . I care that it can be set anywhere , so for us we have our little beagle is kind of a troublemaker , she likes to get into things so I have a feeling that if I was utter to her or she was in leotards enough she would probably knock it down . So you have kind of the power to put it up higher if you have a dog like that or in an area where your pet ca n’t get it if you do have a andiron that ’s going to do that . So those are two of the thing that I notice as well , the size of it and where we ’re able-bodied to place it .
It looks good in your nursing home just sitting on your coffee table or somewhere , which is really nice , and possibly not necessarily a favourite - first party but certainly the engineering first you could note that .
Rachel : Did you get to choose a colour that you require ?
Samantha : I did n’t , they ’re just sending one . But I did notice on the website that they ’re available in unlike people of color , which is great for the great unwashed that are going to display it like in the living room or something like that and want it to match their decor . So that ’s really great .
Rachel : I mean our retention rates of how farsighted people retain using their television camera is really high and I think the fact that it blends into their household is something that really helps with that … it ’s not a little playfulness engineering objet d’art that they get and bet with for a duo hebdomad and then throw away . You know I think the fact that yeah , it mesh with their home seamlessly , we have come up atomic number 79 which for people that have that kind of copper habitation it fits in utterly . And yeah , it ’s design to be something that you ’ll have a long relationship with and not bury about .
Samantha : Yeah , it ’s really nice , it does n’t look like something that ’s just kind of a fun little toy that ’s attend out there , it ’s actually contrive to mesh in with your habitation . So I really care that as well .
Rachel : Yeah , I mean I would encourage citizenry to follow us on Instagram , follow us of Facebook . We love partake in clipping of the funny things that we catch on TechU , so if you ’re not sure about TechU , follow us on Facebook , we send tons of clip ofhilarious pets hiding things , pets fighting , positron emission tomography attempt to jump and fall , you be intimate like … I have in mind you catch hilarious poppycock . So if you ’re not yet sold on Petcube , please abide by us on Facebook and see some of these clip and you ’re going to need to see what you catch of your pets .
Samantha : Awesome . I will make trusted to link your Facebook varlet too in the clause the right way up and underneath the podcast so people can check that out with just a click if they want to do that .
Rachel : Right . Great .
Samantha : Awesome . Thank you so much for your metre today , I really appreciate it .
Rachel : Yeah , no job . It was great to talk to you . I love seeing your dogs .
Samantha : Oh thanks , they ’re a handful but we bang them .
My thanks to Rachel from Petcube , she ’s the Senior Marketing Manager over there like I bring up in the rootage , and I just want to thank her for the smashing information . Like I said I ’m kind of have been recollect about monitoring our detent a minuscule bite when we ’re out of the family just because I vex about them , and after speak with Rachel I realized how significant it is I opine for especially preferred owners who work outside the mansion who do n’t have the opportunities that somebody like I have the chance to monitor our pets every day to observe them to see what ’s going on with them , so if their behavior change and something ’s not the same it ’s gentle for me to pluck up . But if you ’re not home as often , you know unquestionably being able tokeep an middle on your petand to see what they ’re doing and how their behaviour is go , if it ’s changing , that ’s for certain a immense welfare .
So I ’m definitely interested in Petcube and I ’m go to check it out a little snatch more and I desire you guy wire do as well . Again listen to some of those tips if you ’re in the marketplace for a television camera , sure as shooting some things that I did n’t know about the types of the real tv camera and some of the features that you should be appear for . So great info , thanks to Rachel for that .
