In veterinary medicinal drug , Low Level Light Therapy(LLLT ) has been used for decade on hound and cat for a variety of wellness problems . However , most best-loved owners have n’t heard about it because there was no way to access it for in - home treatment , until recently . So what is downcast light therapy for dogs , and how can it benefit our pets ?

I ’ve decide to do some inquiry on the subject field , and discovered a new company calledLumaSoothewho developed a handheld LLLT gimmick which pet owner can expend for healing their hound and cats at home plate . Company ’s CEOCraig Froleyhas bring together me on this podcast to verbalize about all the intricacies of miserable Level Light Therapy for deary . We discuss how LLLT bring , who can do good the most from it , how it act upon for senior dearie and much more .

What Is Low Level Light Therapy for Dogs and How Can It Benefit Our Pets(podcast transcript)

INTRO : Hey guys . Welcome back to Theory of Pets . Today I have a really exciting matter that I do n’t mean a lot of favorite owner are train about . So I wanted to partake in it with you guys today . It ’s light-colored therapy for pets .

If you fall out my articles on Top Dog Tips or you ’re a frequent listener to my podcast , you know that I attempt to centre on raw remedies for my pets as much as I perhaps can . Of course , there are multiplication when you need to seek veterinary fear and get prescription medicinal drug or treatments that are n’t rude . But for the most part , I try and do as much holistic , natural care as potential .

We do work with a holistic veterinary , which I would highly recommend , if there ’s one in your field .

A lot of people are confused between holistic and all - natural remedies . Holistic medicine is n’t necessarily all - natural . They do attempt to do all instinctive more often than not , but it ’s really a mixture of both , and it ’s getting down to the beginning cause of the job — what is get the offspring , and how can we well fix that ? Sometimes that is with western medical specialty , but a mess of times there are natural treatments .

So today I ’m talking about light therapy , and I really was really , really favorable to be capable to talk to the CEO of a company called LumaSoothe , and it ’s all one word , LumaSoothe . you’re able to find a liaison to their site on our site , Theoryofpets.com . If you ’re take heed to this in the car , or if you ’re watching on social mass medium or something like that , you could check out their land site .

Basically , the company is center on finding affordable , tone solution to favourite health offspring . LumaSoothe — their biggest vendor , their biggest contributor to the pet wellness arena has been the low - tier light therapy that they ’ve been able to put into a hired man - held gimmick to expend with your pet . Mostly wienerwurst and cats , but that ’s not true , because it can be used with horses , or really , any variety of pet . So keep that in mind . It ’s not just for dogs and khat . If you ’re a horse possessor , or something like that , that make for too .

I was able to actually talk to the company CEO , Craig Froley , and we had a not bad conversation . He gave me a great deal of information about the engineering itself and the benefits of it . Of course , their twist — they have a light therapy machine that ’s hand held , and they just call itLumaSoothe Light Therapy for Pets . It ’s a short helping hand held gimmick with lights on one ending ; it kind of look like a cup if you hold a cup upside down . The open end of the cup is — there ’s a clear cover over it , and there ’s a clump of piddling light on it . You rub it on your dog for many reason — healthy skin and coat , to take over redness , and pain associated with arthritis , articulatio coxae dysplasia , back pain , sprain and strains . So this is a Cartesian product that can be used for all dogs . It ’s not just about elderly pets . That was one of the thing that I speak to Craig about . He ’s going to tell us a little moment more about it in this weeks audience , as well as a fate of other great , swell information . I extremely recommend every pet possessor hear to this about light therapy , because it can be used for puppies , active dogs , andiron that vie , senior Canis familiaris , dogs with wellness issues like Cancer the Crab , arthritis . So it ’s some really great info .

Let ’s check it out .

Interview with Craig Froley

Samantha : First of all , I just want to thank you for being usable today and utter to us .

luminousness therapy is something that ’s new to me , and in all likelihood to a circumstances of pet owners , I ’m trusted you observe . I ’ve await through your website , which is lumasoothe.com , and we ’ll have a link to that , whether it ’s on social sensitive or our web site or anything . There will be a link there so people can check out your situation too . It ’s full of some great information , but there ’s a lot of information on there .

Would you want to start by evidence us just a little flake about luminousness therapy and peradventure how it works and the history of it and all of that good stuff ?

Craig : Absolutely . It ’s interesting you say that you had not heard much about unaccented therapy . Honestly , very few people have . Yet , the applied science has been out there for probably closemouthed to 40 years . It ’s been studied in many unlike forms by people all over the globe . It ’s been used effectively for at least 30 of those long time .

NASA , actually , interestingly enough , was one of the original groups concerned in the product , and they did a fortune of experimentation in space with light therapy for treatment of various little abnormalities that happen — cuts and contusion and aching and pains and whatnot — and find that it ’s one of the better treatment sense modality for the space shuttles .

So it ’s one of those sort of best keep secrets great deal . The basic concept is — it ’s basically all - natural twinkle ; it increases parentage flow ; it increases circulation , especially micro - circulation , which in turn reduced inflammation . There ’s an enzyme in all of us and all of our pets yell Adenosine triphosphate , and it is one of those footling workhorse enzymes that does a ten thousand of different things throughout the body , and the light therapy activates the ATP — as they call it — and it aid with this mental process of healing and cleaning up injury kinds of things .

We decided that — gosh , there ’s idle therapy useable for humans , and it ’s been cleared by the FDA for some 12 or 14 year , but no one ’s ever sat back and said — gosh , what are we doing for our deary ?

I had been postulate in light therapy for human use for hair regrowth for some time , and it ’s the same basic concept that we were just speaking about , and decided — I ’m a pet owner ; multitudes of my booster are all favored proprietor , and the animals terminate up hold the same trouble as either skin - related issues or in a lot of display case as our pets get older , they have creaky weather condition much like us . But nobody ’s around doing anything for our positron emission tomography .

So we decided — why do n’t we sit down back ; let ’s construct a mathematical product that uses the various wavelengths of idle therapy , and allow ’s build it for our pet , and let ’s build up it at a cost that it ’s “ anyone can afford . ”

Veterinarians offer easy therapy , many of them , although not all , but a pile of them do , and the problem with it is it ’s effective and it ’s expensive . So you could give $ 75 to $ 150 a treatment . Where , with our gimmick , you could pay $ 149.00 and own it , and handle your favourite five day a calendar week .

So we just decided — permit ’s get going to cultivate on a product , and we did .

That ’s what brought us to our LumaSoothe gimmick .

Samantha : Which is a unparalleled gimmick for anybody that has n’t checker out the website before they listened to this , which is probably most listeners . It almost reckon like half of a cup to me , and you’re able to easily hold it in your hand on one side , and then the lights are all on the other side , and that ’s obviously the side that you use to cover your pets . So it ’s jolly simple as far as the design blend , with makes it easy to use . For me , I know , as a pet possessor , as far as engineering , and that kind of stuff goes , it ’s always prissy to obtain something that ’s just really childlike and fast , but very effective at the same meter . That ’s something that I bed about the mathematical product .

The lights are , like I said , on the bottom , and that ’s how you address your frump . A lot of people when they first think of light — as far as like , skin and on your body — they think of the ultraviolet spark from the sun and hide malignant neoplastic disease and those things , but this is a 100 % safe treatment .

right ?

Craig : Absolutely .

The spark - emitting rectifying valve , the LEDs , do not produce light with any UV , any of that . So you ’re really getting the best of natural light without any of the downside of sunshine .

Depending upon what you ’re regale , you apply potentially different semblance , which represent different wavelengths of brightness level .

So for example , in our deep - discussion psyche , it is fundamentally filled with 940 micromillimetre infrared diodes . Infrared is unseeable to the human eye . So we have to put some other crystal rectifier , a few other rectifying tube in there that show people that it ’s actually on and functioning . It treats all of those things like arthritis , deep muscle injuries , spinal issue , marijuana cigarette — all over the body . It catch a depth of penetration up to about an inch and a half .

Where the skin treatment principal that we have has a variety of different wavelengths in it include yellow and green and blue and red , and those all do a little minute dissimilar , but it ’s all shallow insight ; it only bottom through the hide layer .

So it treats things like — like in a human — psoriasis , any variety of skin conditions . In frank , mange .

If the hound or the cat has a surgical process , they ’ve mother a wound , and it assist that wind heal faster . The gloomy light is good for — [ dog bark ]

Samantha : Oops , sorry .

Craig : [ laughs ] That sounds like our office staff every now and then when somebody comes to the threshold .

Samantha : Yes . I work from home so that happens every once in a while .

Craig : Well , we pet owners all understand that . Clearly .

So in any case , the cardinal issue here is — there are a slew of devices on the market made for human use that use carmine light , and crimson igniter ’s ok and red light ’s what you use for hair regrowth and a lot of that kind of thing , but the depth of incursion is not anywhere near thick enough to get to articulation and spinal issue and bric-a-brac .

We decide we would ramp up a gimmick with two unlike heads , and they literally just — you just push a small button ; one pass snap off ; the other one snaps on .

As you refer , the machine — it only weigh … I do n’t know what it weighs ; it ’s so light , you hardly even have it away it ’s in your hand ; it ’s like a one-half of a tennis ball , so to speak — and it runs on a 15 - minute timer . So by and large talk , you will treat a region , whether it ’s a hip or a genu , or whatever , for 15 minutes , by just placing the equipment either on or just slightly above the favourite ’s hair or pelt and it goes to work .

But the tonality is , it ’s very dependable ; it ’s all - natural ; it ’s a very holistic approach . In fact , we ’ve had several people fare back to us and say — you live , I ’ve been using your equipment now for a month or two , and we ’re actually lease our positron emission tomography off of the prescription medication for arthritis , and just using a good glucosamine conjoint affix in addition to the tripping therapy , which is rattling . Because any kind of a prescription - eccentric drug is really not good for our ducky in the long rivulet , just like it ’s not good for you and I. And I laugh when I say “ you and I ” because we have — I ’ll bet you half of the hoi polloi who buy our gimmick use it themselves . My wife has an arthritic thumb , and she sit at house and watch television with it on her hand all the time . Because it ’s the same engineering as one would apply for human economic consumption ; we ’ve just decided we need to focalise on ducky because it ’s a market relative to light therapy that really has n’t been addressed .

In fact , we have a vet right now that ’s using it on her horses in their foot and leg region , apparently with serious results .

It ’s a nice , dependable , easy affair to use . There ’s nothing to it . It charges on a lilliputian USB charger just like your cellular phone . So you just secure it in ; it charges ; it takes about an time of day to commit it , and it ’ll run for anywhere from two to three hour in 15 minute growth before it need to be recharge , so it ’s simple and easy .

You do n’t have to be concerned about hurting the favorite , which is really the important thing . With optical maser therapy , which is what is mostly used in your veterinarian ’s government agency , you have to be very careful to check the Elvis and the time and whatnot , because , with laser , you’re able to indeed damage the tissue if you ’re not doing it properly .

Where , with LED light , you really ca n’t . I kind of equate it to the vitamin C thing ; if you take too much vitamin C , your body just talk off the excess and that ’s the end of it . It ’s a little bit that same conception with the LED light therapy .

In fact , recent field are starting to conclude that the LED therapy is actually more in effect than laser in many of the areas . I ’m not totally sure why that is , but I ’ve just been getting some interesting data about that very recently .

Samantha : Wow . That ’s excellent .

you could use it pretty much anywhere on your dog or your big cat ’s organic structure . Correct ? It does n’t count , like if you have an area on the belly where there ’s not a lot of hair , or anything like that .

The only precaution that we stress with folks is , the spark , they pulse off and on , because pulsing the light wavelength is really more effective than it being be given constantly — but in either case , the thing that ’s most authoritative is that you do n’t stare at it with your eyeball . Honestly , I do n’t think it would hurt you , but … But it ’s like …

Samantha : well secure than good-for-naught . Absolutely .

Craig : — temporarily blinding lighting ; it ’s like — whoa — you just do n’t desire to do that .

So I would not process a frump around his forehead and eyes . But other than that , there ’s no position on the consistence you ca n’t treat safely ; it does not generate a bunch of warmth .

Generally speaking , once a darling gets kind of used to it , it kind of gives them a relaxed tactual sensation . unremarkably , they just repose there and enjoy it .

We had a comment from a guy the other day that say — you lie with , my dog at first was pass over around and really hyper , and did n’t want anything to do with the light , and once we work on it a little bit , it was like he just figured out — wow , this is pretty cool , and just lays there now and savour the 15 - moment treatment .

Of course , if you have a place where there ’s an arthritic hip on both side , well then you ’re going to do a 30 - minute ; it ’s going to be 15 minute on a side .

But the pets generally sleep with it , and there ’s nothing to be concerned about with the power of it or the different wavelengths ; it ’s just all safe and lifelike .

Samantha : And is your recommendation 15 minute every day ?

Craig : It ’s really a variable matter . Generally verbalize , if we have a situation that you ’re just beginning to do by , the more often you do it , like , every day … In fact , I know kinsfolk that initially started doing it forenoon and dark . Then as the pet — like in an arthritis state of affairs — with arthritis in humans , it does n’t go by ; you ’re not curing it ; you ’re simply making it more livable ; you ’re making it more hurting - free , and you ’re freeing up the movement .

So in that scenario , you ’re going to address retentive full term , but you may terminate up doing it like three time a hebdomad for 15 minutes , where initially , you might start doing it every day , and in some cases , twice a day .

Then with thing like injuries , if you ’re only going to treat until the injury is healed or the skin stipulation is cleared up — and there ’s some breed that be given to get tegument status on a regular basis — so you ’re using it off and on , on a semi - veritable ground .

Samantha : I be intimate there are veterinary surgeon out there , especially , if anybody — we work with a holistic vet — so obviously , as shortly as I heard about LumaSoothe I wanted to just ask them about visible light therapy and if they employ it , and things like that . She does , and she does urge it . But like you order , the discourse at the vet ’s government agency are much more expensive ; you have to exchange your hotdog to and from to do that . So obviously this is a better option to that ; you may do it correctly at your home where your weenie ’s well-situated . But I know our world-wide veterinarian that is right here in our town — we actually have to go a small way to find a holistic veterinary surgeon — but the general veterinarian here , when I call and ask , they do n’t work with light therapy , and I ’m sure that ’s more common with oecumenical veterinarians .

But for the great unwashed who do n’t have a veterinary surgeon in their area that work with not just LumaSoothe , but all light therapy — there is a ton of large data on your internet site . I really wish the Frequently Asked Questions department , because there are questions like if your bounder has cancer , which we already spill the beans about , people worry about ultraviolet light , and things like that , and there are some great thing about it — if it ’s environmentally well-disposed , and some of the clinical studies on light therapy are on there , which I ’m going to deal some of those actually on our situation as well , because that ’s great information .

So people can get more information there as well . But what if somebody , if they just ca n’t find a veterinarian that is run short to OK this as a treatment for their frank — would you commend that they just prove it for the 15 proceedings , and then maybe do another 15 minutes ? Is there ever go to be too much light therapy in one day ?

Craig : Well , the solution to the question is — if you did it like every two hours , you would not be getting any more benefit than in all likelihood doing it once in the forenoon and once in the eve .

Because the cells engross the light . They absorb the free energy , and that causes the Adenosine triphosphate to get going and do the circulation increase .

But if you ’re consistently doing it every pair hours , the cells do n’t need it that much . So they ’re basically , just go to — vitamin light speed concept again — we ’re just going to sluff off what we do n’t need here . So I do n’t suppose there ’s any major welfare .

You ’re right in terms of the veterinarian world . The holistic vets clearly are into alternate hooey . Although a lot of vets that are not “ holistic ” but are forward - thinking and whatnot , are either using light therapy or they ’re beginning to use it — those come out of school and contract into drill , this has been part of their education . Where with those that came out of school 20 years ago or 15 years ago , they probably did n’t get much pic to the light therapy .

I think in a subject of another three or four years , or five years , many of these folks will be on board , because they ’re reading and get word more all the prison term about how effectual it is .

We have some folks whose pets were diagnosed with arthritis or a shape or whatever , and the vet recommend light therapy . And the folks were enunciate — well , gosh , that ’s really terrific , but I do n’t have $ 300 a month to spend . Yet , we can structure a syllabus where , maybe once every four to six hebdomad , go to the vet , have them use their equipment , which is more powerful , granted — there ’s no questioning that — and then in between , use our equipment . So you ’re not taking the vet out of the word picture all together , and of course of instruction the vet will also see the benefit of using the light therapy , either daily or every other day , as the deary do back for their treatment in six week , they ’re run around a lot better than they were before .

The thing about easy therapy , is that if you do by just once in a while because that ’s all you’re able to give , so to speak , you ’re not go to get much welfare , because you do a handling , and it does what it ’s supposed to do , but then if you do n’t do it again for a week or two weeks or three calendar week or a month , the next day you ’ve lost most all of that . So it ’s a process that needs to be continue all along .

We ’re finding more and more people in the veterinary world are say — gosh , this is n’t challenge to my practice ; this is something that would be a nice adjunct to my practice ; I could address here sporadically , and they could go home and expend this gadget at home , and the pet will be good off for it , which is in the end what we ’re all looking for .

Samantha : Yes . Absolutely . That ’s a great period , that it can kind of help curb that expense of go to the ex-serviceman every two or three weeks , whatever they urge .

So lastly , the twist itself — you said that it was rechargeable ; it takes about an hour to charge . How long would a rush last ? Is it lasting just a few days ? Or are you excite all the time ?

Craig : Typically speaking , the tutelage time is about an hr , and then it runs on this robotic 15 - minute cycle . It will execute about two and a half to three hours of 15 - minute cycles . So if you ’re doing it day by day , you ’re plausibly die to charge once every three or four days .

Lithium Ion batteries are bad for you . They are n’t all absolutely consistent one to the other . So we ’ve had hoi polloi say — well it seems like I ’m charging this like every hour and a half of use . And somebody else will say — I ’m set out closelipped to two or two and a half .

That ’s really a function of how the electric battery smile when it comes out of production .

Samantha : Right . Yes .

Craig : But generally speak , it ’s not something that you use and then you ’ve commence to send it ; you’re able to habituate it several times , and then when you ’re done , you just secure it into the wall ; there ’s a little micro - USB connectedness , and then you just plug it in and it tells you when it ’s done ; the light goes from red to green on the short control panel , ready to go again .

Samantha : I bed you touched on a slew of those wellness issues that lighting therapy can be good to thing like arthritis , rose hip dysplasia , if a Canis familiaris has late had surgery — things like that — they might be taking pain in the ass medication , or some kind of supplement , whether it ’s innate or some form of ethical drug medicament .

Is light therapy safe to use with any of that stuff ? Even peradventure like a topical ointment or something like that ?

Craig : Yes .

The only thing that I would caution or remark — if you have a very slurred topical , for example , on a lesion , it will inhibit the lighting a little mo , not completely , but it wo n’t make the light quite as effective . So in an idealistic earthly concern , they have the salve on them on an ongoing foundation for a few days or whatever , but you ’re lead to reapply it . Well , when you reapply it , you could actually wipe it off a little bit and then do the treatment , and then reapply it —

Samantha : I see .

Craig : — so you ’ll get a little bit more efficiency , but there ’s no chemical reaction of the weak therapy to the medicine that would be adverse to the pet .

Samantha : That ’s near to experience . Because today , everything seems like it has more side effects than benefits now .

Craig : That ’s the beaut of , hopefully , using this more holistic approach to these things . So you ’re not complicating — well the dog ’s on this ; the dog ’s on this ; this reacts with this .

In an ideal world , if you could get them off of all that kind of medication , it ’s better for the pet , certainly .

Samantha : dead .

Those were all the doubtfulness that I had , but if there ’s anything that you ’d care to babble about that we have n’t touch on , feel gratis to discombobulate anything out there .

Craig : You know , I think we pretty much covered all the significant thing . The thing that motivates us here at Luma - Tech is we desire our pets and our customer ’s positron emission tomography and everybody ’s pets to be as salubrious as potential with the least amount of drug interaction and bric-a-brac . And pet , peculiarly when they get older , and I keep going back to this arthritis thing , because that — there ’s a Brobdingnagian percentage of human beings and a same portion of both wienerwurst and cats , horses and you - name - it — that as they get Old , arthritis is just a elbow room of life ; it is what it is . The drugs that are generally prescribed for that are really not very good for it , both human and pet .

So our whole programme here at Luma - Tech is to help get rid of a lot of that material if at all potential , or derogate the social disease of that in conjunction with the luminosity . We ’re also look now at doing some enceinte sparkle therapy machine . For example , you could do by the entire spinal sphere of a buck , which is an field where horses by and large need assist . Because you ’ve got people jump up and down ; the horses are jumping over fences and people are sit down on the horses , and their backs get out of whack .

Samantha : Yes , of course .

Craig : They get inflame .

So we ’re expect at dilate to that area as well , but it ’s the same exact engineering ; nothing ’s unlike ; it ’s just going to be a longer , skinny equipment that lay on the back .

We ’re just committed to the health of our pets . That ’s the one thing that stand up out more than anything .

Just as an aside , when someone decides to buy one of these things , they ’re go to spend 150 bucks , but the affair issue forth with a full two - year warranty ; anything that hold out wrong with it , we replace it immediately , although we get very , very few back , but it ’s something that we stand behind . We do n’t have citizenry buying it and having job with not getting proper client service ; that ’s not a good thing .

Samantha : I think that ’s one of the liberal things as consumers that people are looking for , especially when you get into engineering and devices that are working with mechanically skillful parts , batteries , things like that , the lights that plainly your product has . mass desire to know that it ’s going to work , and one of the ways that I know , for myself , and for a lot of our friends and home that are consumer as well , obviously , what we hear most often is — if a party stand behind what they ’re selling , if they ’re telling you we are so confident in this Cartesian product that we ’re going to warranty it for a class or two age , or whatever it might be , you ’re more apt to purchase a mathematical product like that .

Whereas , you get on Amazon and you regularize something , and if it does n’t work and it break in a week , you ’re just out that money . So I think it is important to observe that as well .

Of of course , just the machine being so easy to utilize , user - favorable , and dependable — right now , you said it , sadly , is almost a manner of life for dearie to have arthritis , hip dysplasia , a lot of it stems from obesity and things like that in young years . But there ’s many reason for genetics over breeding . We ’re see a sight more rose hip and joint and spine issues , disk disease and thing like that in dogs .

So to know that there is a treatment that is safe and effective , and something that ’s not either kick the bucket to have side personal effects of it ’s own or cause any side effects with any of the other handling that you ’re using — that ’s a art object of mind for pet owners .

Like I tell , we work with a holistic veterinarian for our dogs , and that ’s a big part of why we do it . We require to know that the intervention that we ’re giving is not making anything worse or is not going to affect our dog negatively in another way .

You might be helping the arthritis , but you ’re hurting the kidneys and the liver with all the prescription drug medicinal drug at the same time . So you ’re really not doing any favors .

One other quick affair too I ’ll mention that just pop into my mind . We have several citizenry that have dogs that do these competitive outcome , where they ’re stand out —

Samantha : Oh , absolutely . Agility and things .

Craig : — and doing all sorts of hooey . This is a great therapeutical equipment to prevent the dogs from injury .

We have two or three people now that are using that before and after these competition , to help keep the redness down in the joints , and upgrade the circulation and it defecate the dog … A dog ’s like us , I mean , you exploit yourself , and your muscle get sore . And the better shape you ’re in , the less that happens of course .

But they ’re using the light therapy for the deep handling stuff to kind of give the dog a once - over , either before or after or both , when they have contest . So it ’s an interesting approach that we had n’t really even thought about when we first start to work on this mathematical product .

I know “ working dogs ” — for lack of a good term — sporting dogs , are becoming more popular . People are either using them for something that it is kind of a job , like a hunting weenie or a retriever . But sport like agility and things like that are becoming a band more pop too , so that was definitely a great thing to observe , to avail those joints doing that much work over long periods of time , for class , that the dog is contend .

Their joint , their pelvis — they ’re need a thrashing for trusted . So it would be a great thing if you could prevent other onset arthritis or degenerative diseases like that .

WRAP UP : verbalise with Craig really open my eyes to what ignitor therapy can offer us as best-loved owner , what it can put up to our favorite . So I trust you guys learned as much from this podcast interview as I did .

I know that I really appreciated let the cat out of the bag to Craig , and like I mentioned in the interview — light therapy is something that I feel like a tidy sum of pet parents are n’t educated about . We just do n’t know that it ’s out there .

So if you think that it might be proper for your pet , look into it . Check out the LumaSoothe website .

If you pass over on our internet site , which is theoryofpets.com , we ’ve link up to their website there , and I ’ve also linked to some studies and some corking enquiry that bear witness the benefit of light therapy and things that it can do for your pet . So jibe that out .
