Though the felicitous ending came May 11 , the story really starts back in 2017 . That ’s when Ginger , an adorable tan - and - white pup ( mayhap apit shit ) was stolen from the home plate of her human , Barney Lattimore .

The Janesville resident physician kept a vigilant hunt for his missing pup but to no avail . The 24-hour interval stretched into months and then years . Lattimore ’s family line originate over that time , welcoming other dogs and even a new sister into the base , according to theHumane Society of Southern Wisconsin . But no matter what , his belief Ginger was out there never faded . Every fourth dimension Lattimore and his family saw a dog that seem even a little like their lack puppy , Lattimore would scrutinize them close , hop it was his miss girl .
Then , on May 1 , the Beloit Police Department post a photo of a tan - and - white pup officers found rove the streets 13 miles aside from Lattimore ’s home .
Lattimore saw the Wiley Post and his hope was renewed when he saw the immediate resemblance to his miss puppy . He contacted Beloit constabulary and learn Ginger had been transfer to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin where Tennessean cared for her and wait to see if she had a family somewhere .
Lattimore and his family drove to the protection to see if the hot dog was , indeed , their long - lose gingerroot , and the confirmation was quick .
